Your recovery from rhinoplasty will depend on several different factors, including:
- The type of rhinoplasty you had performed
- Your body’s natural ability to heal
- How closely you follow Dr. Hamrah’s post-surgical instructions
With both open and closed rhinoplasty, you can expect to have some pain, swelling, and bruising in the initial days after surgery. Dr. Hamrah can prescribe medications to help you control any discomfort, but the pain and swelling should begin to subside within 24 hours. Allow yourself at least one full day to lay in bed with your head elevated will help reduce swelling. Take it easy and rest as much as possible during the first week following surgery to facilitate healing.
At the one-week mark you will return to our office for a follow-up visit. At this time, stitches and splints may be removed, as well as any surgical packing necessary to initially hold your nose in its new shape. Many people are able to resume work after this appointment, but swelling and bruising may still be obvious.
Within two weeks, swelling will have significantly reduced. You may be able to resume most of your normal activities at this time. Dr. Hamrah may suggest you wait up to 4 weeks to resume strenuous exercise. This will be determined by Dr. Hamrah following your procedure.
The results of rhinoplasty are permanent. For many patients, this makes the short recovery time well worth the wait. Dr. Hamrah will be happy to answer any questions you have about your specific procedure during your initial consultation.
If you live in or around Northern Virginia, Maryland, or Washington DC and are interested in rhinoplasty, please contact double board-certified surgeon Dr. Daira Hamrah at NOVA SurgiCare today to schedule an initial consultation.

Laser skin resurfacing, or a “laser peel,” reinvigorates skin to look smoother and healthier. The laser removes the damaged outer layer of skin, prompting the body to generate new skin cells and collagen. The result is a significant reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and other imperfections and improved facial texture.
The two common types of lasers used in laser skin resurfacing are the Erbium: YAG (Er: YAG) and the carbon dioxide laser (CO2). The CO2 laser is highly focused, high-energy and generates a greater amount of heat. The CO2 laser is good for resurfacing procedures involving deep wrinkles, severe acne scarring and other serious imperfections.
The Er: YAG laser is an effective laser for treating light wrinkles and scars and other superficial skin damage. The Er: YAG laser also reduces the amount of redness that occurs after surgery.
Other benefits of the Er: YAG laser include:
- Shorter recovery. Er:YAG patients typically recover from laser resurfacing in 5-7 days, compared to about 10 days with the CO2 laser
- Some skin resurfacing patients, especially those with darker skin types, have experienced a permanent loss or change of skin color. This is called hypopigmentation and occurs less often with the Er: YAG laser
- The Er: YAG laser tends to be a gentler, less invasive procedure
Laser skin resurfacing treatments have provided many people with brighter, healthier, smoother looking skin. For laser skin resurfacing in northern Virgina, please contact the experienced Dr. Daria Hamrah at NOVA SurgiCare, PC.

Dermabrasion procedures improve the look of your skin for a smoother, brighter, fresher appearance. Dermabrasion buffs away old skin cells, and your body responds by producing new skin cells and collagen for a new, even skin surface that will look fresh and replenished.
Microdermabrasion can dramatically improve many skin flaws, including:
- Acne scars
- Light wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Large pores
During microdermabrasion, a diamond-tipped wand is used to polish away old skin cells. The abrasive force of the tiny diamonds evens skin tone, smoothes away fine lines, light sun damage and light acne scarring. Generally, microdermabrasion is used to improve the look of relatively minor imperfections and scars or as a routine exfoliation procedure. Many patients see results from microdermabrasion immediately.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, microdermabrasion takes about 30 minutes and does not require any recovery time. There is generally no pain or discomfort in a microdermabrasion procedure, so you will not need anesthetic. Dr. Daria Hamrah uses the DiamondTome wand to gently exfoliate your skin and remove old skin cells. The hand-held device is passed back and forth over your skin, adjusting pressure as needed for your specific skin condition.

BOTOX and Dysport are both viable options if you are considering a cosmetic treatment to smooth lines and revitalize the look of your skin. BOTOX and Dysport work especially well in reducing forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown creases.
Both BOTOX and Dysport are botulinum toxins that block communication between nerve endings and muscles, relaxing muscle contractions and resulting in a smoother appearance to the skin. Dysport was approved by the FDA in 2009, and as a relative newcomer in the US compared to BOTOX, it remains to be seen to what extent the two differ.
A recent study published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery indicated that Dysport may be more effective in preventing crow’s feet that occur while smiling. The study found no differences between the effects of BOTOX and Dysport on crow’s feet when facial muscles were at rest. Some patients say that Dysport works faster, taking about 1 to 3 days compared to 3 to 7 for BOTOX. Some people think that BOTOX works better for creases between the eyes. Whichever treatment you prefer, you will be most likely to get the best results by choosing a cosmetic surgeon who has experience with BOTOX and Dysport injections. The experienced cosmetic surgeon Daria Hamrah offers both BOTOX and Dysport in northern Virginia.
To restore your facial appearance using BOTOX or Dysport in northern Virginia, please contact the skilled Dr. Hamrah at NOVA SurgiCare, PC today.

Plastic surgery is a very personal and serious choice. In the early stages of your decision-making process, nothing is more important than choosing the right plastic surgeon.
Your evaluation of any plastic surgeon should start with a close look at the surgeon’s background and experience. Board-certification is an important requirement. Plastic surgeons who have been board-certified have received special training and passed examinations that have demonstrated their competency in specific surgical techniques.
In addition to a good technical background, the right plastic surgeon will also be dedicated to patient education and safety. If a surgeon doesn’t give you straight answers during a consultation, take this as a red flag. A good plastic surgeon will carefully listen to your cosmetic goals and give you an honest assessment of what can be accomplished in your case.
Northern Virginia plastic surgeon Dr. Daria Hamrah is double board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and by the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. For the past 10 years, he has been actively engaged in the oral and maxillofacial surgery field, and his entire professional and educational experience has been focused on cosmetic and reconstructive procedures for the head and neck.
If you are interested in facial plastic surgery, we invite you to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Hamrah today to find out what makes NOVA SurgiCare unique. We can answer any questions you have about our procedures and help you make an informed decision about treatment.

Choosing a cosmetic surgeon is an important decision. Your choice should involve consideration of the cosmetic surgeon’s credentials, experience and candidness. Prepare for a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon by planning questions ahead of time. The cosmetic surgeon’s answers to your questions can both tell you about the surgeon’s qualifications and give you a sense of your rapport with the cosmetic surgeon. A surgeon should answer your questions willingly and address all of your concerns.
In a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon, ask questions that will help you determine the following about the surgeon:
- Credentials, including medical license, board certification, education, training and experience. Some cosmetic surgeons refine their expertise in an area by fulfilling a fellowship. You may want to ask if the surgeon has completed a fellowship relevant to your procedure.
- Level of experience with the specific procedure you are pursuing. Ask your cosmetic surgeon how many times he or she has performed the surgery you are interested in. You can ask to see any before and after photos the cosmetic surgeon may have.
- Concern for safety and use of state-of-the-art technology. Using up-to-date technology enables a cosmetic surgeon to minimize risks and incisions. A surgeon who invests in the latest technology is more likely to be concerned with achieving the best results.
Good cosmetic surgeons can demonstrate competency through experience and education. Do not hesitate to compare several cosmetic surgeons in your search.

Juvederm reduces the signs of aging by replenishing your skin’s hyaluronic acid. This acid is abundant in our faces during youth, but decreases with age. Hyaluronic acid maintains facial volume because it absorbs water, in essence acting like a moisturizer. As the levels of acid dwindle, skin volume and structure is diminished, causing wrinkles and folds in your face.
Juvederm can improve the appearance of many different signs of aging, including:
- Puffy, dark bags underneath the eyes
- Smile lines
- Marionette lines
- Vertical lines above your mouth
Juvederm has an advantage over other dermal fillers because it contains hyaluronic acid. During a Juvederm treatment, your doctor will use a fine-gauge needle to inject the smooth gel underneath the outer layer of your skin. The gel will instantly restore structure and add volume to your face. The injection will also boost hyaluronic acid levels, allowing your skin to more effectively absorb moisture. The results from Juvederm can last up to 6 months depending on the area that is injected.
There are several different facial fillers, and a qualified healthcare professional can determine which one is the best solution for you. Dr. Daria Hamrah understands both the outward and underlying components of the face, and after a consultation with you, Dr. Hamrah can help you decide if Juvederm is the best way for you to achieve a refreshed, improved facial appearance.
To schedule a Juvederm consultation in Washington, D.C., please contact Dr. Hamrah at NOVA SurgiCare today.

Injections like Radiesse restore an appealing facial shape without the invasiveness of surgery. More and more people are turning to injections to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and augment areas of soft tissue loss. Dermal fillers like Radiesse have the advantage of producing instant results and requiring minimal recovery time.
Radiesse can be used in several ways to improve facial signs of aging. Radiesse can non-surgically reduce the appearance of:
- Smile lines
- Marionette lines/frown lines
- Chin wrinkles
- Wrinkles around your mouth
- Sunken cheeks
- Hollowing on either side of the chin
There are several types of facial fillers. Radiesse has the advantage of stimulating collagen production. Radiesse contains calcium-based microspheres, which cause your body to produce collagen. Collagen is a protein that makes your skin appear smooth and firm, and the capability of Radiesse to stimulate collagen production means that the result of youthful-looking skin will last up to a year or more.
Radiesse can instantly improve the signs of early aging. Radiesse can also be used in combination with BOTOX for optimum anti-aging results.
For Radiesse in Washington, D.C., please contact the experienced facial cosmetic surgeon Dr. Daria Hamrah at NOVA SurgiCare.
